On most sailings, you’ll visit at least seven different ports throughout your journey. While the majority of these cruises spend at least one day at sea, some longer itineraries spend up to three days at sea, so you can unwind and enjoy the ship. Cruises to the Western Mediterranean depart from Barcelona, Rome, Athens, Ravenna, and Southampton. Embark on a luxury Western Mediterranean cruise from April until October on an unforgettable itinerary ranging from seven to 14 nights.
Why Sail to the Eastern Mediterranean with Celebrity Cruises
We stayed at the Rome Marriott Grand Flora hotel during our two pre-cruise days, which was within walking distance to the Borghese Gallery and Gardens. Not wanting to start the trip off too tired, we booked a late morning tour of this exquisite 1-billion-dollar estate via Viator. While the rest of this sunset verandah cabin felt like an upgrade, the real draw was the spacious aft-facing balcony. It features two upright chairs, a small table, and plenty of space for admiring the views. We found ourselves using this balcony quite a bit during sail-in and sail-out of ports of call.
Sail across Europe on a Luxury Cruise Ship through the Mediterranean
The Eastern Mediterranean cruise season begins in late May and lasts until mid-October. Most of our Eastern Mediterranean cruises spend only a day at sea, giving you plenty of time to explore the region in depth. Escape on a 12-night cruise to Spain, Malta, and the Greek Islands, where you’ll stop in historic capitals, sun-soaked cities, and charming beach towns. Stop in the popular islands of Santorini and Mykonos, where white-washed buildings and the bright cerulean ocean await. In Athens, walk among the ancient ruins of the Parthenon, while in Nafplio, visit historic castles and an ancient Greek city.

Step inside Diocletian’s Palace in Split, a sprawling fort built for a Roman emperor in the fourth century. Marco did a great job showing us the highlights of this ancient city in a short time, including some shops, homes, a theater, forums, a spa, and more. Again, it was Marco’s charismatic delivery and deep love for the topic that keep the tour moving along. Once again, this lunch was very uninspiring, and our shopping was interrupted by torrential rain.

If you've never been to Europe, you may feel overwhelmed by destination choices. If you know which ports are on your must-see list, you might be more stumped by which cruise line to choose or which specific itinerary will be the best for you. Then, we were off in a taxi to our tour of the Colosseum with underground access, the Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Finally, we tried two new-to-us Celebrity Cruises restaurants, Raw on 5 and Eden. Having tried similar restaurants on other cruise lines, I guess we were expecting a bit more. At Raw on 5, Don sampled the The Beyond rolls and the calamari along with the spicy shrimp stir fry. While we are not typically fans of cruise ship buffets, the Oceanview Café ranks among the best for us.

During the drive, the tour guide described the history of the island and discussed her years of education and training to be a certified guide. Returning to the port, we then took an hour walking tour of the old town.
